Bob Hastings
President, PointMan Canada

Bob Hastings spent 17 years in the Canadian Forces where he was an aerospace engineering officer supervising field maintenance of a number of Canada’s aircraft and engines while also managing engine fleets at headquarters and performing foreign technology assessment. He continued in DND for another 9 years as a civilian R&D program manager responsible for aero-propulsion, aircraft structures and material, aerodynamics, flight mechanics and electrochemical power sources R&D programs and researchers.

After a number of consulting engagements, Bob was asked by the NRC to set up a new laboratory, the Gas Turbine, now the Propulsion and Power Lab, from 2005 through 2008. Since 2000 Bob has run PointMan Canada Ltd, a successful consulting firm being integrally involved in the founding of the $45M CANETIC engine icing and inclement weather R&D and certification facility in Thompson and currently with the GE Aerospace Test Research and Development Centre into which about $80M has been invested.

Bob continues to serve also as the CEO of WestCanitest R&D Inc or WestCaRD where he assists in the development of human, economic and technology capabilities in Manitoba.

Bob has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical engineering and the equivalent of a Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering through a 2-year training with industry program in California.
