Training as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) equips you with the knowledge and hands-on skills to maintain and repair both small and large airplanes, as well as helicopters.
Programs approved by Transport Canada provide the essential foundation for obtaining an AME “M” License. Training is typically divided between classroom theory and practical projects, ensuring graduates are well prepared for the field.
Upon completing a Transport Canada–approved program, graduates may receive:
- A diploma or certificate from their institution
- A Letter of Accreditation with a Transport Canada number
- Up to 19 months credit toward the 48 months of required aviation maintenance experience
- Completion of the three (3) technical examinations required for licensing
After graduation, individuals must complete the remaining on-the-job work experience and pass the Canadian Aviation Regulations exam. Meeting these requirements makes you eligible for a Transport Canada AME “M” License.
Some programs are also recognized by the Canadian Armed Forces under education subsidy plans, offering additional career pathways.
